Is it ethical to give a child a Covid vaccine?

Statement

“Children are 50 TIMES more likely to die from the Covid vaccine than the virus,” Dr Michael Yeadon, former Pfizer Vice President, Respiratory Health.

Healthy children are not affected by SARS-CoV-2 and do not develop Covid-19.  And the Covid vaccines (which almost universally employ novel spike protein technology) do not claim to give immunity or stop transmission.

Of concern are the high number of immediate adverse reactions to the Covid vaccines. Reports in the US, Israel and Europe, where they have begun vaccinating young people, show myocarditis in boys.

Key Points & Evidence

Health experts urge caution on giving Covid vaccines to UK children, The Guardian, 29 May 2021.

"If you offer [children] vaccines, then you put them at risk of possible side-effects – so there really needs to be some significant, tangible benefit to them, not just the indirect protection of adults from Covid-19."

Of note, even a comment as simple as this one exposes the repetition of false information. For there is no evidence Covid vaccines give "indirect protection of adults from Covid-19."

COVID-19 vaccination in children – major ethical concerns, HART Group, 17 March 2021.

"The immune system is phenomenally complex and still poorly understood. Experimenting on young children for a disease that carries vanishingly small risks is a road no ethical scientist should walk down."

Emergency Authorisation of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for Children, UKMFA letter to MHRA, 8 June 2021.

"If the risk is significant enough for manufaturers to anticipate economic loss, children must not be expected to take the same risk to their long term health."

European study of the Covid vaccine risk vs benefit, 24 June 2021

"Perhaps it might be necessary to dampen the enthusiasm by sober facts? ... Currently, our estimates show that we have to accept four fatal and 16 serious side effects per 100,000 vaccinations in order to save the lives of 2–11 individuals per 100,000 vaccinations, placing risks and benefits on the same order of magnitude."

Conclusion

A Covid vaccine injects billions of mRNA or DNA into the arm muscle. The sequence enters cells of the body instructing them to produce a spike protein similar to a caronavirus spoke protein. The immune system responds by attacking the infected cells and learns an immune response.

However, the mRNA or DNA is encased in a lipid nanoparticle so that it is delivered to a body cell and is not broken down on entering the body. Doctors did not realise that the lipid nanoparticle facilitates the distribution of the mRNA throughout the body, infecting hormone producing organs in particular.

No-one knows the long-term consequences of injecting mRNA or DNA and science needs to reconsider the immune response triggered to rule out inflammatory markers and antibody dependent enhancement. This is an experimental technology given licence through emergency authorization.
